The average man wears a size 10½ shoe. That shoe will fit about 12% of men and about 1% of women. Everyone else – 88% of men and 99% of women – will be extremely unhappy wearing those shoes no matter how much they try to get use to them. Dentures are even more personal than shoes.

A personalized denture utilizes sophisticated instrumentation to measure specific jaw movements and facial landmarks. Not only are we able to restore the natural contour of your lips and facial muscles; the denture fits better and makes it easier to chew food. Your dentures will also last longer and “feel sharp” for a longer period, as the teeth are arranged in a more personalized, balanced and precise manner. While the process involves a lot of additional labour for our lab staff, it only requires a few additional minutes for the patient.

The main difference between economy and personalized dentures is that personalized dentures are customized to the patient. An economy denture uses average values to arrange teeth. The average values used for conventional dentures are known as the Bonwill Triangle which was established in 1854 and is still used to this day. Knowing the distance and orientation of the teeth compared to the rest of the facial features is extremely beneficial when fabricating a new denture. Bonwills Triangle uses an average distance of 4 inches and 3.46 inches. If your jaw differs greatly from these average values, an economy denture may not function very well.
