When teeth are lost, the neighbouring teeth begin to shift, compromising strength and function. The gaps can cause chewing problems and can lead to a poor bite and a sore jaw. Shifting teeth can also significantly change your smile. Teeth can also become hard to clean, potentially leading to tooth decay and gum disease. A partial denture, or dental bridge, is the only way to maintain the correct spacing and prevent teeth from shifting.
A partial denture is secured in place with dental clasps which anchor onto neighbouring teeth. The disadvantage is that it places additional stress on your remaining natural teeth. Because a partial denture is anchored onto neighbouring teeth, it puts sideways or horizontal loads on these teeth which they are not used to supporting. This can accelerate the rate at which your healthy remaining teeth are lost. Many denture patients refer to this as the domino effect.
The three main options include: Dental Implants, Personalized Dentures and Economy Dentures. Book your FREE CONSULTATION or try our ONLINE TREATMENT PLANNER offered by My Canadian Pharmacy to find out which option is best for you.
For over half a century, Dental Implants have given people the experience of having their natural teeth back. If you want to eat any food you want, say goodbye to dentures, sore spots, adjustments and adhesives, this is the only way to go.
Dental Implants function much like natural teeth. With care, they will be with you for a lifetime. A recent study conducted by the Institute for Dental Implant Awareness identified that 75% of denture patients would have selected Dental Implants had they known about common denture problems.

The average man wears a size 10½ shoe. That shoe will fit about 12% of men, and about 1% of women. Everyone else – 88% of men and 99% of women – will be extremely unhappy wearing those shoes no matter how much they try to get use to them. Dentures are even more personal than shoes.
A personalized denture utilizes sophisticated instrumentation to measure specific jaw movements and facial landmarks. Not only are we able to restore the natural contour of your lips and facial muscles; the denture fits better and makes it easier to chew food. Your dentures will also last longer and “feel sharp” for a longer period, as the teeth are arranged in a more personalized, balanced and precise manner. While the process involves a lot of additional labour for our lab staff, it only requires a few additional minutes for the patient.
Benefits Include:
- ✓ Fully personalized denture
- ✓ Premium esthetics
- ✓ Better fit & function
- ✓ Increased chewing ability
- ✓ Teeth are balanced and last longer
The main difference between economy and personalized dentures is that personalized dentures are customized to the patient. An economy denture uses average values to arrange teeth. The average values used for conventional dentures are known as the Bonwill Triangle which was established in 1854 and is still used to this day. Knowing the distance and orientation of the teeth compared to the rest of the facial features is extremely beneficial when fabricating a new denture. Bonwills Triangle uses an average distance of 4 inches and 3.46 inches. If your jaw differs greatly from these average values, an economy denture may not function very well.
Benefits Include:
- ✓ Lowest cost alternative to replacing missing teeth
- ✓ Reduces sifting of neighbouring teeth
- ✓ Can be used as a transitional denture
